What does Mathematics Learning Look Like K-6

At Windang Public School, Mathematics is purposeful, structured and engaging from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our teachers use explicit teaching to clearly explain what students are learning, model strategies step by step, and provide guided practice before students work independently.

All classes follow the NSW Mathematics syllabus and are supported by high-quality programs, including the Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP) and Maths PR1ME. The Explicit Mathematics Program provides a clear and consistent approach to learning mathematics, with structured lessons, regular review, and plenty of practice to help students build strong foundations and confidence. Maths PR1ME supports students to develop a deep understanding of mathematical ideas through visual models, problem solving, and clear explanations that help students make sense of what they are learning.

Learning is differentiated so every child is challenged at their point of need, with additional support or extension provided when required. Students build strong number sense, practise fluency through daily review, and apply their learning to solve real-world problems.

Our goal is for every student to become a confident, flexible and accurate mathematical thinker who can explain their reasoning and experience success in Mathematic
